The state of Wisconsin passing a bill to legalize marijuana and is expecting that legislation to be placed by year end is fake news. There is no truth to a report that the cheese state has passed legislation allowing its residents to participate in the use of marijuana by the end of 2017.
Where did this fake news originate? Abcnews-us.com published the fake news article reporting that Wisconsin legislators agreed on a bill that would allow the legalization of marijuana for both medical and recreational use by its residents. You can read the fake news below.
MADISON, Wis. – Weed smokers rejoice, The state of Wisconsin can now be added to the growing list of US states that have past bills to legalize the use marijuana.
The bill to legalize marijuana for medical and recreational use in the state was first presented at the state capital back in July is expected to be in place by the end of the year. Lawmakers have finally given the go-ahead citing it will jump-start the economy and create new jobs.
“This bill is so much more than legalizing marijuana–it’s about legalizing opportunity and prosperity,” said Democratic Melissa Sargent. “The state budget was due two weeks ago, and Wisconsin simply can’t afford to wait any longer. We deserve a real plan to create new jobs and stimulate our lagging economy, and that’s what this bill is.”
However, there is no truth to the above story, according to Hoax Alert. The site abcnews-us.com has nothing to do with the real ABC News website even though it uses their logo for misleading purposes.
There has been no bill passed by Wisconsin legislators. On Aug. 24, Rep. Melissa Sargent filed AB 482, a bill to legalize, tax, and regulate marijuana for adult use. It would also create a medical program for seriously ill patients in Wisconsin. However, that bill has not been passed yet, so it is unlikely to be in place by the end of 2017. That part of the article was totally made up.
