Mike Yung showed off his pipes with a cover of Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” on America’s Got Talent. Heidi Klum said that this was his best performance. Simon Cowell asked why would people put an age limit on talent. Simon called him one of the nicest people that they have met on this show. Simon thinks America will get him and that he will see Mike in the semi-finals.
Howie Mandel thought Mike was the best singer. Mel B said that Mike has an incredible voice but that sometimes he doesn’t feel it in here. Mel B called Mike’s voice technically really good.
Mike Yung is a 56-year-old subway singer from Brownsville, New York, a neighborhood in Brooklyn. As a teenager, he was discovered and signed as an artist to RCA and CBS and eventually landed at T-Electric, the same label as Etta James and Luther Vandross. Yung was gearing up to be a household name when the label suddenly went bankrupt; his debut album was never released.
After being forced to find a way to make a living to support his family, he took his talent underground and began busking in the subway. For the past 37 years, Yung’s voice has been reverberating throughout the walls of the NYC subway system. Earning a living has become more and more difficult, but Yung continues to enjoy what he does. He hopes being on “America’s Got Talent” will give him the opportunity to get out of the subway, move his family out of the projects and finally, at 56 years old, have a chance to put out his long-overdue debut album.
