Merrick Hanna Stuns With Dance To Alec Benjamin’s ‘I Built a Friend’ On America’s Got Talent

By Shawn Rice

Merrick Hanna, a 12-year-old, told an emotional story through dance. Try to hold back the tears! In his introduction, Merrick is shown with his father, Shawn, and grandmother, who Merrick credited as an influence because she takes four dance classes as week at age 80.

After getting a standing ovation from the judges, Simon Cowell told Merrick that he would love to have him dance in music videos for his artists and that he will show this video to his record label immediately.

Howie Mandel said he was left “teary-eyed” by Merrick’s nearly 2-minute performance to “I Built a Friend” — the Alec Benjamin song about a robot built and then discarded and “fried.”

What did you think of the performance? Let us know in the comments section.
