The biggest success to come out of Suicide Squad was Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn. Robbie was easily the breakout star of the first film, so it was expected that she’d get her own Quinn vehicle. That resulted in news of a solo film for Harley that would involve The Joker. Now comes news from Robbie that she is working on a separate film from that previous one in development.
This one is one Robbie has been developing herself and is separate to the proposed “Joker and Harley” film, the “Gotham City Sirens” film and the “Suicide Squad” sequel. Robbie revealed to MTV more details about the project and outlined what she would like to see next with her character:
“It’s hard to talk about it because this stuff is under lock and key, but I’ve been working on a separate spin-off Harley thing for a while now. It’s a totally separate one. There’s a lot going on right now and honestly I don’t think anyone knows what’s going to be the next thing to happen, but I think everyone is keen to get Harley back on screen, so everyone is working on lots of different versions of what that could be.
I want to see her with other women. I kept saying when we were shooting Suicide Squad, ‘She needs her girlfriends. She needs other girls around her because she loves that.’ And you see it in the comics, she loves meeting people, any people, but she needs a little girl gang.”

At last report Gavin O’Connor is helming “Suicide Squad 2,” David Ayer is helming “Gotham City Sirens” and Glenn Ficarra and John Requa are directing “Joker and Harley”. Which one will go first is anyone’s guess at this point, as is the future of the DC films initiative beyond the three already set projects – “Aquaman,” “Shazam” and “Wonder Woman 2”.
These projects are unrelated to the upcoming Joker origin story that Warner Bros. is slapping together, reportedly with a little help from Martin Scorsese, and the straightforward Suicide Squad sequel that will be written and directed by Gavin O’Connor.
Suicide Squad stars Will Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness, Focus) as Deadshot, Joel Kinnaman (RoboCop, Easy Money) as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney (Divergent, The Water Diviner) as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne (Anna Karenina, Pan) as Enchantress, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El DIablo, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and Jared Leto as The Joker. There’s also mystery roles for Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood, Raymond Olubowale, Alex Meraz, Jim Parrack, and Common.
Created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru back in 1959, the Suicide Squad team has included countless DC villains among its ranks, including Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Bane, Killer Frost, Poison Ivy, Count Vertigo, Deathstroke, and Harley Quinn. The CW’s Go to the full article.
