Krispy Kreme giving everyone on Facebook a free box of doughnuts for sharing a post is a hoax. There is no truth to various posts that have appeared on Facebook newsfeeds in recent days. Krispy Kreme is not giving everyone a free box of 12 doughnuts as a means of celebrating the company’s birthday.
In order to get this “free box,” the scam requires that participants are instructed to simply share, like, and comment. The posts then promise that social media users will be sent their coupon within a few hours. However, there is no truth to these posts as the whole thing is a scam.
Hoax Slayer reports that some versions also require users to click a link to verify their entry before receiving their coupon. Despite anyone’s effort or attempt to follow these instructions by liking, sharing, commenting or clicking, you will not get a free Krispy Kreme doughnuts.
These posts are scams only designed to promote dubious Facebook pages and obtain large numbers of Facebook page likes as quickly as possible. Some versions even trick social media users into providing their personal details on scammy third-party survey websites.
Here is an example of the scam post:
Krispy Kreme is giving away one free box (12 donuts) coupon to everyone to celebrate their birthday.
To get your coupon simply SHARE & comment THANKS on this video.
We will verify your share & comment and will send your coupon to your inbox in 6 hours.
Enjoy your donuts, Don’t forget to like us.
Responding to a customer asking about the coupon, the company wrote, “Unfortunately a fake coupon has circulated this week on social media, which we have worked to remove. Always check offers you find on social against our verified social media accounts and our official website.”
So, if you are one of the nearly 2,100 people who have shared the coupon on Facebook, you will still have to pay when you see the Fresh Hot Now sign. While you cannot get a free dozen, Krispy Kreme is offering a dozen doughnuts for 80 cents after you buy a dozen on July 14 as part of its birthday celebration.
