Kechi performed “Don’t Worry About Me” by Frances on America’s Got Talent. Howie Mandel said that all he wants to do is hug her. He had no words. Mel B called Kechi so special. Mel B said that she is so confident and gives people hope and inspiration. Mel B said that her voice sings wonders to so many people. Mel B called her incredible.
Simon Cowell said that it was Kechi’s best performance in the entire competition. Simon said that Kechi is an example of people rising up. Simon called her an artist and a magic moment. Heidi Klum noted Kechi’s confidence and stage performance. Heidi said that she ruled the stage like a queen.
Kechi is a self-taught singer, born in Nigeria and now living in Pearland, Texas. She is influenced by her parents’ passion for music, and her love for singing was fostered in high school by singing for friends at events. She found her true voice after being involved in a plane crash in 2005 that took the lives of 107 out of 109 passengers.
Throughout a difficult journey of recovery that included treatment for third-degree burns over much of her body, Kechi was sustained by her faith, family and music. She began performing at galas and fundraisers for burn trauma victims, family events and at her church, sharing what she loved with those she loved.
