John McCain Wearing A ‘Donald Trump Is Not My President’ Shirt Is A Fake Photo

An image purportedly showing U.S. Senator John McCain wearing a “Donald Trump is not my President” t-shirt is a digitally-manipulated fake. McCain was not photographed wearing any anti-Trump shirt—the inappropriate photo stemmed from a self-described satire website.

The Photoshopped image seems to have originated on Freedum Junkshun, a website known for publishing fake news and political satire. The photo was also shared on several other disreputable news websites. The article claimed that McCain was captured wearing the profanity-laced shirt, which was then shared by one of his supporters.

It purported:

John McCain has taken his attacks on Donald Trump way too far! McCain was captured in a photo wearing a horrible profanity-laced anti-Trump t-shirt on Saturday, which was posted to social media by a supporter of his.

McCain posed in the photo with Senator Lindsey Graham, another Trump hater. He can be seen wearing a “Donald Trump is not my President” t-shirt featuring a gigantic middle finger and the words “F*** Trump” underneath it. Graham, sporting a huge smile, is wearing a red shirt.

The report and photo are both entirely fabricated. While McCain does have a longstanding feud with the president, he was not photographed wearing an anti-Trump shirt. Freedum Junkshun clearly states in their disclaimer that their articles are completely fictitious:

We believe that there is nothing more precious than the mind of an aging conservative. Here we gather a boatload of bullhonkey, works of pure satirical fiction, to give the fist-shakers of the world a reason to hate. Reality is often in the eye of the beholder. You won’t find any of it here.

The real photo was taken in August and features McCain, Senator Lindsay Graham and former Senator Joe Lieberman. McCain’s shirt actually reads, “Backyard Birds” from the Rio Salado Audubon Center in Arizona. The image was shared on McCain’s official Twitter account, along with the caption, “The three amigos together again!”
