The Batman has had many developments since news of the solo film starring Ben Affleck was announced. Test footage was leaked showing Joe Manganiello appearing as Deathstroke. But, since that leaked footage, it is unclear whether Manganiello will continue to remain a part of the film.
The actor is remaining tight-lipped regarding the character’s status in the upcoming DC movie. When asked by The Hollywood Reporter if he has any information regarding Deathstroke’s status, Manganiello replied, “I don’t. Well, I do but nothing that I can share. I know everything but I can’t say any of it.”
When pressed further, as THR sought to gauge the actor’s tone, Manganiello said he was “shooting for a neutral tone.” The actor continued to play coy, saying it isn’t up to him when fans will find out whether or not Deathstroke will be in the film, adding, “That’s a good question for Warner Bros. and DC.”
Following the news that Affleck would no longer direct The Batman, Manganiello was asked back in March if Deathstroke would still appear in the movie, saying, “Umm. Maybe. We’ll see.”
Since then, Matt Reeves has signed on the direct the movie and confirmed that he is not working with the previous script, which was written by Geoff Johns and Ben Affleck. The new director wants to tell a “very emotional” story that features a “detective version of Batman.”

There have been rumors (and granted, this rumor keeps popping up, so take it with less than a grain of salt), that they want to do Arkham Asylum, which would mean lots of villains coming at Batman. In that case, you could still have Deathstroke, but the role has been greatly diminished. In which case you have Manganiello holding on to a gig even if it’s not the gig he originally signed on for.
Even if Manganiello does not appear as Deathstroke in The Batman, he is not totally cut out of the DC film universe. The DC film universe has a lot of upcoming movies and Deathstroke could fit into some of them. Maybe Suicide Squad 2? Fans seemed really into the idea, so Warner Bros. doesn’t need to scrap the casting altogether even if Reeves does not want to use the character in his movie. For now, we have to wait until the new vision for The Batman is revealed.
