Is Will Smith’s other film commitments stalling production on the sequel to “Suicide Squad”? While Warner Bros. Pictures recently put its planned “Suicide Squad” sequel on a fast track to production, it now appears that things will be slowing down due to Smith’s film schedule.
Variety reporter Justin Kroll has tweeted that he is hearing the earliest the film can go into production is Fall next year because of Smith’s commitments to both Guy Ritchie’s live-action “Aladdin” at Disney and Ang Lee’s clone assassin thriller “Gemini”.
So hearing at the earliest, SUICIDE SQUAD 2 won’t go in to production until fall 2018 because of Smith’s schedule with ALADDIN and GEMINI

The studio is still in search of a director for the film as original helmer David Ayer is not returning, instead he’s turning his attention to the “Gotham City Sirens” spin-off. Both Mel Gibson and Jaume Collet-Serra were rumored but neither are looking likely now.
That means Suicide Squad 2 probably won’t hit theaters until 2020, and movies like The Joker and Harley Quinn spinoff and Gotham City Sirens will be even further out than some fans had hoped. As of right now, Wonder Woman is the only movie with a confirmed 2019 release date. Though Shazam is expected to be released sometime in 2019 as well.
Suicide Squad starred Smith (The Pursuit of Happyness, Focus) as Deadshot, Joel Kinnaman (RoboCop, Easy Money) as Rick Flagg, Margot Robbie (The Wolf of Wall Street) as Harley Quinn, Jai Courtney (Divergent, The Water Diviner) as Captain Boomerang, Cara Delevingne (Anna Karenina, Pan) as Enchantress, Karen Fukuhara as Katana, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Killer Croc, Jay Hernandez as El DIablo, Adam Beach as Slipknot, Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, and Jared Leto as The Joker. There is also mystery roles for Ike Barinholtz, Scott Eastwood, Raymond Olubowale, Alex Meraz, Jim Parrack, and Common.
Given the rigorous requirements of the job, the Suicide Squad lineup is always in flux. The roster has included Deadshot, a precise marksman and assassin; Harley Quinn, a peppy but psychotic villain; Captain Boomerang, the man who turns boomerangs into lethal weapons; Enchantress, a powerful sorceress who can wield magical energy; and their sometimes field leader Rick Flag, an elite soldier who is one of the only members who isn’t a super-villain.
Created by Robert Kanigher and Ross Andru back in 1959, the Suicide Squad team has included countless DC villains among its ranks, including Deadshot, Captain Boomerang, Bane, Killer Frost, Poison Ivy, Count Vertigo, Deathstroke, and Harley Quinn. The CW’s “Arrow” introduced their own version of the team in the most recent season of the series and the recent animated film, Batman: Assault on Arkham, offered another version of the team.
Despite a critical drubbing, the first film made $745.6 million at the worldwide box office.
What do you think about Suicide Squad 2 being delayed for Smith’s other film commitments? Would you rather the film have more time to work out the problems from the first? What Go to the full article.
