Back in July, I ran a little experiment. Each day, I wrote down sales goals and how much money I actually made that day. A few weeks later, I had a five-figure month and a five-figure launch.
This isn’t an accident. Research shows that individuals who write down their goals are 42 percent more likely to achieve them. If I look back at my own life, I realize that every time I write down my goals they actually happen.
I slacked in August because most people were on vacation, but I’m right back at it again for the Fall. Here are some of the reasons, based on my own experience, as to why you should write down your sales goals.
It gives you a visual.
Most people are surprised to find out I’m a visual learner. Sometimes I have to actually see things in order for them to stick. Nowhere is this truer in my life than with money.
When I write down my sales goals, I can actually see what I’m working toward. As a result, I can also figure out how to achieve the goal.
If I’m not actually tracking these things, my mind gets clouded because it seems like a concept instead of a goal.
It helps you focus.
There is nothing more motivating to me than writing down my sales goals and tracking my progress. By knowing exactly what I’m working toward, it becomes easier for me to become motivated to work.
If I have to do sales calls to reach my goals, I’ll do them. When I have to come up with extra pitches, I’ll do that too. If I have to take a risk and ask for more money, I stand my ground.
It is way harder for me to do these things when I’m not tracking my sales goals and my progress. For some reason, it just doesn’t seem real unless I’m physically writing down my goals.
You train your brain.
I recently interviewed a feng shui practitioner about how to increase the flow of abundance in the home and office. She mentioned how your home is a living vision board you can use to train your mind.
I’m willing to bet that writing down your sales goals also counts as a real life vision board. By seeing those numbers every day, you start training yourself that it’s possible to achieve them.
You have more peace of mind.
Writing down and tracking my sales goals also gives me more peace of mind. Why? Because I have a better handle of business revenue.
While I certainly use online invoicing and payment software, it’s still easier for me to visualize money if I physically write it down.
By knowing what’s going on, I feel more secure in my ability to pay my bills and meet my goals. The last time I wrote my sales goals down every day, all my bills were paid within two weeks. Everything else went into savings.
