Reports that President Donald Trump ordered the United States Navy to spell out “Donald’s the best” with warships are false. Rumors that Trump planned to send out various messages in the Pacific Ocean that could be seen from space stemmed from a satire website.
According to Hoax Alert, the fake claim originated on Waterford Whispers News, a self-described “fabricated satirical newspaper and comedy website.” The article claimed that Trump planned on spelling out messages using 60 warships in order to send a “tremendously strong message” to not only North Korea, but the entire world. It purported:
THE US naval fleet in the Pacific Ocean has been put on high alert after reports from Washington suggested that President Donald Trump may be planning to send more ships to the area and arrange them so that they spell out a message that can be seen from space.
Trump is currently deciding between ‘Donald’s the best’ and ‘Trump is number one’, and has begun negotiations with his military advisors to see which one would be possible with the warships available in the area at the moment.
The report is, of course, entirely fabricated. Waterford Whispers News clearly states in their disclaimer that their articles are satirical in nature and are not meant to be taken seriously:
Waterford Whispers News is a fabricated satirical newspaper and comedy website published by Waterford Whispers News.
Waterford Whispers News uses invented names in all its stories, except in cases when public figures are being satirized. Any other use of real names is accidental and coincidental.
Additionally, the image used in the article is not real—obviously, warships are not being used to spell out Trump’s name or any kind of message in the Pacific Ocean.
