President Donald Trump leaving reviews for locations such as Yad Vashem on TripAdvisor during his trip of the Middle East is fake news. Rather, an article appearing to report that Trump wrote reviews after his brief trip to the region was intended was satire. Of course, it was amusing to read Trump’s “opinions” for his stay in the Middle East. Where did this satirical story originate?
In late May 2017, following a trip by Trump to the Middle East, a series of screenshots purportedly showed reviews left by Trump left on TripAdvisor for various locations in the Middle East. For example, this is the review Trump reportedly left for the “Global Center for Combating Extremism” in Saudi Arabia and as you can see Trump “allegedly” gave the location 4 out of 5 stars.
However, these reviews were not actually written by Trump. The TripAdvisor reviews originated in an article published by Mashable on May 28, 2017, with a few hints in addition to the article’s outlandish premise and the unbelievable text that the reviews are not real. For instance, the reviews are introduced with the following brief statement which clearly give away their intention.
Below are his reviews, published here for the very first time.
The Mashable article also further carries a “humor” tag, showing that it was written in jest, not as a genuine news story. Although the article is clearly a piece of satire, Snopes searched TripAdvisor to see if it could find any reviews written by Trump. However, there were no reviews about Yad Vashem, the Wailing Wall, or any other landmarks in the Middle East.
Here are some examples of people sharing the satirical piece on social media.

For his trip, the Saudis treated him like royalty, with red carpets, lavish meals and American flags flying everywhere. They repeatedly used the word “historic” to describe his visit, gave him a medal, projected a multistory image of his face on the side of the palatial Ritz-Carlton hotel where he was staying, and treated him to a colorful dance display in which his staff joined in with scores of white-robed Saudis and even the president swayed back and forth.
