Creflo Dollar Debuting New Pulpit Made Entirely Of Hundred Dollar Bills Is Christian Satire

By Shawn Rice

Creflo Dollar creating his new pulpit entirely out of hundred dollar bills is fake news. Rather, a Christian satirical article claimed that the televangelist’s new pulpit was constructed out of hundred dollar bills. Where did this satirical piece originate?

Dollar is an American televangelist, pastor, and the founder of the non-denominational World Changers Church International based in College Park, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. Dollar also heads the Creflo Dollar Ministerial Association, formerly called International Covenant Ministries, Creflo Dollar Ministries, and Arrow Records.

The Christian satire web site The Babylon Bee posted the article on July 14, 2017, reporting that Dollar had built his new pulpit entirely out of hundred dollar bills.

COLLEGE PARK, GA—Creflo Dollar reportedly broke in his new, looming pulpit made entirely out of hundred-dollar bills Sunday by preaching a convicting, passionate sermon on humility, sources at World Changers Church confirmed Friday.

The large, intimidating money pulpit was constructed out of all the crisp, freshly banded c-notes placed in the offering plate by Dollar’s church members over the past several weeks,

Why did some people believe the above story to be true? Well, Dollar has courted controversy for preaching what some call Prosperity Gospel, and for soliciting donations from his followers for his ministry to buy a luxury jet.

Here are some examples of people sharing the fake news on social media.

However, there is no truth to the above story, according to Snopes. Rather, the story about his pulpit designed out of money is purely satire. The Babylon Bee is an entertainment web site that publishes humorous, but not factually accurate, articles. A disclaimer at the bottom of the web site says “The Babylon Bee is Your Trusted Source For Christian News Satire.”

While The Babylon Bee does not hide the fact that it is a satire site, its articles are often mistaken for reports of actual events such as the one above.

Creflo Dollar Ministries states on their website the following: “To go where no one goes and to do what no one else will do – that’s the mandate from God that our ministry has. In this stunning never Go to the full article.
