Steve Bannon’s time as White House chief strategist has officially come to an end. The White House confirmed on Friday that Bannon had been removed from his role in the latest White House shakeup.
The New York Times reports that Bannon, who was a key player throughout President Donald Trump’s election, would be leaving his post on Friday. White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said in a statement, “White House Chief of Staff John Kelly and Steve Bannon have mutually agreed today would be Steve’s last day. We are grateful for his service and wish him the best.” CNN reports that “while Bannon was given the option to resign, he was ultimately forced out.”
Vanity Fair reporter Gabriel Sherman tweeted that Bannon is “expected to return to Breitbart” amid his departure from the White House. Bannon formerly served as executive chair for the right-wing news website that has been criticized for promoting sexist, racist and xenophobic views. The controversial figure, who was ousted from his National Security Council post in April, has been labeled a white supremacist by critics.

#BannonOut but, we still got a mad man behind the wheel… Trump may have lost his GPS but, he’s still drunk and driving us towards a cliff.

Steve Bannon is out, but the White House won’t be free of racism, bigotry, & misogyny until Trump is out too. #BannonOut

I suppose #BannonOut is a win. That’s one less racist in the White House. Now if only we could get the racist-in-chief to step down.

Bye Bye Bannon! Don’t let hit ya! But don’t think Trump won’t still be talking to him – because he agrees with him. #BANNONOUT
